Tonight was the last show of the Metalocalypse tour, and it was parked right smack dab in the middle of my college campus. Thank you Event Center. I gotta say, metal is generally not my cup of tea and the main reason I went is because it was affordable, on campus, I haven't been to an actual show in ages (Andrew WK was more of a tiny musical event rather than a concert) and I'M A HUGE NERD. The show was fucking brutal. I dont think my feet were on the ground for at least the last two sets. I've been kicked, elbowed, and hit in the head by like 6 crowd surfers. Of course it was totally worth it. First two bands, High on Fire and Converge were kinda ehhh. Mastadon was actually pretty good, I enjoyed their set despite my lack of oxygen or space to move my limbs. By the end of their set I some how got pushed up to the very front so I could fail my arms around over the gate and have sort of fresh air to breathe. FFFFFFF AND THEN DETHKLOK. Their set was broken up by sections of animated segments with the characters themselves. The one before the set was great, it guest stared Eddie Riggs from Brutal Legend as their roadie. The rest of the set was accompanied by animated music videos which I was totally admiring any time I wasn't screaming lyrics or headbanging. Major props to Brendan Small for being able to do the vocals, guitar, being a great front man and of course for creating the show, without which this concert never would have happened. PICS! From my cell phone! Bearded security guard was my hero. He spent the whole show making sure crowd surfers didn't kill me when they were passed up to the stage. The guy next to him gave me Brendan Small's guitar pick that he caught for being such a trouper up in the front. Concert ticket, guitar pick and a signed photocopy of my Dethklok fanart. I don't know if you've noticed but I have a habit of meeting all the celebrities I go to events for. It's just how I roll, and of course this was no exception. Mike and I waited out back with the 10 other fans awesome enough to sit in the cold outside world to meet people. TOTALLY WORTH IT. Brendan said my drawing was awesome. NOW I'M GOING TO BED. I got kicked in the head twice so it's time to pass out.

It was a very culture filled weekend. Wednesday Night: -Zombieland -Glee Thursday Night: -Where the Wild Things Are midnight release -In our PJs -Peter wore a dinosaur themed onesie. Friday: -Saw Where the Wild Things Are AGAIN because I love it and I was invited by another group. -Denny's followed by Psych season finale. Saturday: -De Young Museum (was filled with some really cool art, if only my camera worked) -Disney Museum that just opened! It made me miss Disneyland a lot. :( -Saw Urinetown at DVC cuz Weasel was assistant stage manager and Lily was on Hair and Makeup. -Also it's a hilarious musical. Well I'm ready to pass out. Can't wait to work my ass off on art this week. Thank god there's no school on monday. On a completely unrelated note, I'm tired of being overlooked by certain people and I'm going to try not to let it get to me and maybe work on putting some more exp towards charisma. It's just some gratification would be nice every once in a while. Mood: exhausted Tunes: Yes -LMFAO

Oh man what an experience that was last night. Me, Erin, Bennett and Matt went into San Fransisco for this super special show, and let me tell ya it was not your average concert. It was a lot more focused on the Calder Quartet than I would have guessed. The songs they played were really good, the Quartet was really awesome and I would probably go see them play even with out Andrew WK. There was one song that was kind of electronic that I really liked, I'll have to see if someone remembers the name of it. Andrew's spontaneous piano improvisations were really hilarious, his second one ended up being really good instead of just silliness. In the second half of the set list they switched from Calder Quartet ft Andrew WK to Andrew WK ft the Calder Quartet and played some of our absolute favorites, I Get Wet, Party Hard, I Love New York City, and I Wanna Have a Party. For those songs they got way into the rock and roll aspect of the music and the violins/viola/cello worked really well with the music. I Love New York City was changed to I Love San Fransisco because apparently SF is his second favorite city in the world and he's considering buying a house out here. There was a lot of dancing and audience sing a long at this part and even a light show. They ended the show with silence (in three parts) which kind of let the night sink in and was really nice. You really couldn't leave the show with out the biggest grin on your face. Andrew WK's rock persona and raw energy complimented the Quartet's classical styles so well, and vice/versa. After the show we hung around the lobby and talked to the members of the quartet about their experiences on the tour. We waited around for a while because me and Erin had made a t-shirt to give to Andrew WK (I designed, she and Dan screen printed) but they started ushering us out. Erin was out the door but Matt grabbed the shirt to hand to one of the Quartet members and right at that moment Andrew came back down the stairs to talk to the few people left. He was so excited to see the shirt and kept saying that the attention to detail on the shirt (It was a depiction of his trademark coke and peanut butter smoothies) really made his night. Erin who had been ushered out called us so we handed the phone to Andrew so she could at least talk to him because they weren't letting her back in the building. We convinced him to come outside and meet the few people out there and it seemed to make everyone's night. We ended the evening with In n Out Burger before I was dropped off at school. Last night was so amazing. I know I brag a lot but really, my life is nothing short of awesome. Party Hard: Acoustic (Chicago show) vs Electronic ( Read more... )Tunes: Andrew WK "I Get Wet"
